DIY Mini Scrunchie for Baby Girls: Cute and Simple Tutorials
If you're looking to add a sweet, personal touch to your baby girl's wardrobe, creating your own mini scrunchies is a fun and rewarding DIY project. Scrunchies are not only adorable, but they’re also practical for keeping baby hair tidy and stylish without causing any discomfort. These small, soft accessories are gentle on fine hair, making them a great choice for little ones. Here's a step-by-step guide to making your own DIY mini scrunchie for your baby girl.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Fabric of your choice – Satin, Cotton, jersey, or velvet are soft, stretchy, and comfortable for baby’s sensitive skin. Choose playful patterns or soft pastel colors to match her outfits.
- Measuring Tape – To ensure the fabric is cut to the right size.
- Elastic Band: 15 cm / 6 inch of elastic (depending on your wrist or hair size).
- Sewing Machine: If you're new to sewing, don’t worry; this project doesn’t require advanced skills.
- Thread: Matching thread color to your fabric.
- Scissors: For cutting fabric and thread.
- Pins or Fabric Clips: To hold fabric pieces together while sewing.
- Safety Pin (optional): To help thread the elastic through the fabric.
Step-by-Step Guide:
Step 1: Cut Your Fabric
Start by cutting your fabric into a strip that measures 20 inches or 50 cm long and 2.5 inches or 6 cm wide. This size works great for most scrunchies, but you can adjust the length if you want a bigger or smaller scrunchie.
Step 2: Prepare the Fabric
Fold the fabric in half, short sides together, lengthwise. Pin the edges to keep them aligned. Sew the short edge with a ¼-inch or 1 cm seam allowance, leaving the small space on the centre.
Step 3: Fold the Fabric
Lay the fabric flat on the table.
Fold one side of the fabric towards the center .
Fold the other side in the same way, meeting the first fold.
Now, fold the lower edge up to meet the upper edge, so the fabric is like a long rectangle with both sides tucked in.
Step 4: Sew the Long Edge
Pin the fabric together if needed.
Sew along the long edge (where the folds meet),about a 1/4-inch or 1 cm seam.
Step 5: Turn the Fabric Tube
Turn the tube from the short side and from the opening you left previously.
Step 6: Add Elastic
Cut a piece of elastic 6 inches or 15 cm, and thread it through the tube using a safety pin.Sew the ends of the elastic together.Step 7: Close the Scrunchie
Close the opening where you inserted the elastic using a hidden stitch, your Mini scrunchie for baby is complete! Give it a little fluff to help it gather and scrunch up. Pop it around your wrist, or gather your hair into a ponytail for a fun and stylish look.
